  • Background
Norovirus, also known as Norwalk virus, is an RNA virus belonging to the family of Caliciviridae, and is the most common cause of non-bacterial acute gastroenteritis. Among the various genotypes, the GII.4 has dominated the recent norovirus outbreaks. Since it is hard to incubate norovirus in vitro, the capsid protein VP1, becomes a great target for vaccine and drug development for norovirus. When expressed in insect cells, the NoV VP1 normally form virus-like particles (VLPs) that are morphologically and antigenically similar to native norovirus.
